The magic of Reddit, and it's effect on Web Traffic

So everyday, I wake up, and I check my SEO ranking to see if it's improved. Then I check the traffic statistics. We have been seeing quite a bit of growth lately. As most of the older members are aware, this community moved to http://luna.soulcreative.org in July of 2013. Here is traffic from that time.

So the average number of visits per day for that time was about 330. Fast forward to Febuary of 2014, and we see this.

So notable growth. What really caught my attention though is on the 15th of February, we hit an all time record high of 873 visits. I was wondering how we hit such a spike in traffic, so I looked into the pages that users have been navigating to this site from, and I found that we had gotten roughly 200 hits from this Reddit post. This is the comment the user left in that post:

So After seeing this huge spike by this user, I decided to try for myself. So I created a new account, and posted a link in one of the threads on the first page.

And the result was.. once again, a record high of 946 visits as you see on the 17th. Here is how the spikes look visually.

So needless to say, this seems like quite an effective way to boost traffic. I can't say that the traffic has been successful in retention. We don't know yet. I do know, though, that Reddit can have a significant impact on traffic. It turns out we don't need to post new threads, and get them to page one to get traffic. We simple need to put a well placed link in an already popular thread. It doesn't even need to be voted up, though I'm sure voting up would be quite helpful.

Thanks to Winnie_the_slayer for teaching me this lesson.

Additionally, if you guys are feeling helpful, you could certainly have a huge impact on this community by posting a single link in one of the front page threads, once per day.

Love,

Luna

I do Reddit a fair amount, but it wasn't me who linked this place there nor was it me who made that.

I have mentioned the place to a few friends of mine though. Sometimes makes for a fun story or two.

Slimey! I'm not sure how relevant you think you are, but I own the Sociopath World user account name "Slimey", as well as many variations thereof. (I haven't yet humiliated you with... Ahem, posted with them yet, so you won't find your real identity there). If you would like it Slimey, let me know.

Mhhmmm. I don't give a shit. I'm just tipsy and bored. I wouldn't give it to you even if you said pretty please, with a chocolate a covered strawberry on top. And that's saying something. :)

Um, I really don't think that will be necessary, seeing as though I just told him myself, Homer. :)
