Fake identity

Do you use fake names? I have for a long time. On the internet of course but also IRL. Some people I have known for years know me only by my "false" name. I put "false" within quotation marks, since I do not really see my aliases as false. They are just other names I use, and I have the right to call myself what I want.

We are of the same mind. Luna Prey isn't a fake identity. It's an online identity.

I believe online identities will become mainstream in the future. There is no need to associate with real life.

I agree with that but there is a difference if people believe the name to be the person's real name or not. My nicks I do not see as fake at all, and I choose them so they represent what I am or how I am.

Yes, Jay (and fake lastname) is a Nom De Plume I use when I do not want my actual life associated with something nefarious. Like degenerate websites, or picking up randoms at the bar. It's actually quite elaborate, many close friends also call me Jay.

I personally have three different aliases in real life. Online i have to many to count but the three in real life have become part of me. Its gotten to the point that if someone were to call out one of these aliases I wouldn't hesitate and just ask. "What?" Which has made me seen like an idiot one to many times. But I could not care less about such things, in my mind I have three lives and that is completely normal to me. I also have specific personalities set for these aliases, for an example lets say my rl name is David. As David i'm a timid calm relax person, but others may know me as Nick. The easily agitated hard ass who doesn't take shit from others. Purely examples but that is how my rl life is. Luckily none of my other personalities relationships know, or could possible know of each other so I don't risk of my different lives colliding. My question is, does anyone ever get in a...mode when they act as their aliases? Like, I have noticed I change dramatically and its like i don't even know how to control it anymore.

Ages ago I used to play a female skater in the Tony Hawk games online. Some people back then took being beaten "by a girl" way too seriously, which was always a load of laughs. Ended up forming a group around her simply from pretending to be a charismatic female who plays video games. It eventually expanded into it's own AIM account where I could continue keeping tabs under the false alias.

It was far too easy, until voice chat came along anyway.

I use Istdet for anything not related to physical life. I use my birth name only, have considered doing otherwise. But I don't see the point. The only reason it would be considered my "real" name is a piece of paper signed by people who did not know who I would be. In my own mind I have my own name but it is never shared with others in real life

That sounds more like having multiple personalities than use of an alias.

I use fake names too in real life, but I don't associate a personality to each one. What you describe is a bit weird, and it looks like your personas are fake characters you play, like you're on some sort of stage. Any reason why each persona has its specific traits?

You always get people to think you're female TC, haha. I never got a female vibe from you tbh.

So you call yourself by another name, in your head?
