Personally I've been thinking about it and I doubt we as a race will ever unite under one banner until something comes along and threatens us a species and not a country. Till we all abandon our petty fights over religion, color of skin, materialistic desires we will never ever further our way as a species. And the only thing that will cause such imbecilic problems to go away is for something to come into the game we all call life and take everything thing from us. Only then, will we fight as one. Then again this may be my inner anarchist just desiring war and death. Your opinion on the prospect?

Every since we came down out of the trees our society has been evolving. We started identifying ourselves as clans. Then we moved to villages, and cities. Then city states, and finally to nation states. From there we moved to alliances such as NATO, and the UN.
I'd say these observations imply that as society evolves, we continuously unite on a larger and larger scale. This time in history is truly exciting in that web-technology has united the world like never before. I believe this trend will continue.
It's hard to believe I know, but these times we live in now are times of great prosperity for the Human race. It's true there are countless Humans starving in this world, but when we compare these rates to rates of the past, we see that this is truly a golden age for us.
The problem with the Human mind is that we notice the bad. It was evolutionary beneficial for us to acknowledge and share bad news with each other. Not only for immediate survival, but also to learn from it. For this reason, we are biased in that we pay much more attention to negative news.
We live in a capitalist society, and that society is ran by consumerism. Unfortunately, capitalism as a framework must reach Humanity to share and market it's new ideas, services, and products. This makes it profitable for those news organizations who are best able to gain the attention of it's viewers. For this reason, the current times always look worse than they are.
I believe Humanity is on a good track. We are finding cures to diseases. We are improving our ability to produce energy while shrinking our impact on the environment. Not to long ago, if you wanted to go to space, you needed the backing of a government. Our society is now moving into an era where individual Humans can have a major impact on the world. Space X is a great example of this.
I like to think that as technology increases, our ability to extract resources not from this planet, but from the Universe will increase. I like to think that as Humanity gains a stronger fundamental understanding of this Universe, we are better able to manipulate it to our advantage. It is my hope that the future of Humanity is a future of material abundance. Where materials are cheap, and 3d printing is what makes our products for us. In this sort of future, it isn't the factory workers, and the miners who are of the highest value, but rather, Human time, and Human creativity. Those who put in the time producing 3d Content, or brainstorming new ideas to apply what we know to come up with new solutions to the problems that plague Humanity are of greatest value. By raising the value of the Human mind, we raise the value of Humanity itself. Humanity, then, becomes the most scarce resource, and this results in higher pay, and prosperity. A great example of this happening even in today's society is the raise of the service based industry in developed nations.
I am possibly naive, but I don't believe being skeptical about the state of the world is good for anyone. We should see the best in ourselves, and see the best in each other. We should see the best in Humanity. This isn't to say that we shouldn't prepare for the worst. We should, but we should also work toward our ideals to bring them to life.
