It's not what they use but how they use it.
I agree wholeheartedly that carelessness can kill the rabbit but proper use of such a website can be beneficial. To begin with, it is a source of information about the people you socialize with which you can use for your advantage. Knowledge is power. Secondly, you can also manipulate the information you provide which is especially useful when you have something that you want to hide. Lastly, you can contact your friends for free!
I am very strict with the information I provide and I don't share anything that most people don't know already. Moreover, I have hidden all the information from everyone sans the people whom are amongst my 'Friends' and no one can suggest to befriend me except for the 'Friends of friends'. I hesitate to comment on anything excluding the posts of my friends because I don't want to be noticed on the wider field. I use Facebook solely for the reasons I disclosed earlier and for other informational and entertainment purposes.
All things considered, I agree that using Facebook in the manner most people tend to do is very naive and foolish but social networking websites have their pros as well.
