Survival and reproduction instincts

Humans throw the term "purpose in life" around like it relates anything to a career they may choose. But our species true purpose really comes down to the will to survive and reproduce. The will to survive produces selfish, cunning, manipulative, dominant, and heartless characteristics. The will to reproduce produces loving, protective, sacrificing, and caring characteristics. When you take the instinct to reproduce out of a humans brain you end up with a sociopath/psychopath who's basic characteristics are the ones concerned with the self survival mechanism.

Just throwing some ideas around, any thoughts on this?

Very interesting, I think the raw drive to reproduce could also show some Sociopath traits. Wars have been fought people have died over that beaughtful thing we call a pussy :)

The will to reproduce produces loving, protective, sacrificing, and caring characteristics.

There are a lot off different reasons people have kids and they're not all loving, caring ones.

Reproduction has financial advantages if you're resourceful enough. One example would be to hire your kid out to pedophiles and make some money off them.

Kids can also be live-in slaves.

Some people just have kids because they're lonely and want someone to love them.

Some have kids because they just want an heir to carry on the family business etc.

Some have kids to try and trap someone else in a relationship.

And some have kids because they want someone to take care of them when they get older.

There are other reasons too, but I can't think of them all at the moment.

Yes but I think at one point, the instinct to reproduce will make a person genually loving, protective, caring, and sacrificing. After all,our instinct tells us that for the most part it's counterproductive to neglect the person you're trying to mate with or the child you are trying to raise.

Also reproduction is a rather social event. Human babies need to be nurtured for years after birth, and require two parents for a more successful upbringing. And sociopaths are naturally antisocial.

But as I stated in a previous comment, I'm sure this subject is much more complicated than I've explained. Scientists barely know anything about the average Human brain, let alone a sociopaths. I can only make assumptions.

You make reproducing sound like totally selfish act. At least with conscious humans. I consider the bald eagle, the duck and the emperor penguin as representative of creatures that are totally selfless about raising progeny where the males put in equal time caring for the young. We do not know if they really feel or are genetically programmed to "just do what is necessary".

I just see it as strict instinct. Humans try to place importance on it but our species is just a smart version of monkeys, with the end goal to reproduce. Anything else we do is to entertain ourselves until the next time we decide to reproduce.

That's because it usually is a selfish act. Kids are our only produced to meet our own needs, whatever those needs may be.
