All matter consists of individual magnets and it is the movement of these magnets within materials and through space that produces measurable phenomena, i.e., magnetism and electricity.

I think magnetite is one of the most fascinating natural materials on earth, and the possibilities..infinite.

Well nobody really had any idea how he was doing it, one witness said they saw the giant blocks floating from one end of the complex to the other. Can't really scrutinize him if you don't know for sure his methods. 

Anyway, the shield idea sounds cool. If he did somehow create a device that could change the gravitational pull and lift such weights imagine the possibilities, a small device soldiers where that stops bullets in their tracks within a few meters. That's random and fantasizing a bit but who knows. Floating furniture?

It might work in theory but not in the real world.

When the shields were up, how could your rocket thrust? It would be pushing off its own shield which wouldnt be very effective I feel.

Ineffect, the ship would be inside a metal bubble.  Getting in and out of the ship would also be rather difficult.

obviously, you take a nuke, put it just behind the ship, and then detonate it... the blast then hits the ship thrusting it forward... rinse and repeat until you reach the desires speeds. :)
