I have just finished reading the above-captioned tome. I was not surprised to see psychopaths badmouthed. I saw enough of that in Hare's explaining us to the world. But Cleckley managed to shock me, a difficult thing to do. The Mask of Sanity is how we psychopaths or sociopaths fool the world into treating us as sane people. But we are really more harmful and disturbed than schizophrenics. The book is an attempt to create a rational for allowing psychiatrists to commit us to insane asylums. There, he finds lobotomy to have produced "remarkably encouraging results." I thought lobotomy was a relic of our dark past. But a book that is promoted as an exemplary document in the field promotes lobotomy. I do know this book is antiquated in many ways. It calls black people "boys" and "girls" for example. It is full of smug assumptions from the "good old days" and I read it in hopes that it had something to contribute in the present day. It has nothing except a warning to say away from that tribe of head shrinkers.

Speak for yourself. Other people can think what they fucking want. I'm 'normal' as far as I'm concerned. It's the rest of the world that's fucked up.
