A question for you all

How do you all go about making good grades and actually doing school work? I have plenty of people I could just copy from but I figured that wouldn't benefit me when I get to college and I don't know anyone. Nobody really understands the sheer boredom i go thru tryin to do my work. Well, except for you guys but no one in real life can help me and my brothers a highschool dropout so yeah. I actually failed my english class for the semester with a 57 and recently did a credit recovery class that gave me credit and also gave me a new semester grade of 87. The whole course took me less than a week since I know how to skip all the bullshit and this seemed like a great solution but idk if they keep the fact I failed in the firstplace on record, so it probably isn't a good idea to take advantage of this.

Coping methods for doing my homework???

The last time I went to school was 24 years ago and my grades were pretty average. I hated school though - teachers telling me what to do and how to do it. I dropped out as soon as I left home (at 17) and never looked back. Now I home-school my daughter, which is a pain in the ass, but it's better than keeping her at school and having to attend welfare meetings on a regular basis because of her behavior.

Have you considered telling your teachers or your parents that you're struggling with your school/homework?

Coping methods for doing my homework???

1. first find out what your purpose is for getting through school. focus on that and find all the support you need to make that goal.keep it interesting and make it matter to you, or there is no motivation to get through school

2. find the right tutors who care about you finishing as much as or more than you do. with each teacher or class or assignment, find something you care enough about to make the effort to do the work. with papers find one point you want to say. with each class or teacher find one thing you agree with or find interesting.

3. if you don't really care enough to be there, go do something else you do care about. if you can do both, then use your interests to reward yourself for making goals to get through each assignment, class and year. find a way to make a game of each goal.

if you need help with specific topics, or ideas, you can ask me or ask on yahoo answers and other sites with people who LOVE these subjects and can make you interested in them so you get through the courses. heck you might even learn something!

take care and always find a way to make it interesting where it matters to you or there is no way or reason to focus or finish

(note: I worked with attention deficit students and some who had no hope of mastering the material which is not the case with you, I still found creative ways to make it interesting to each student. you sound bored because this is not challenging enough. maybe adding humor, music, artwork or something creative would keep your brain active if the material is too boring, simple and dry.

ps if you just want the credits and don't want the classroom structure, there are independent courses you can take for credit through colleges like Texas Tech. so you can do some courses during the summer and graduate early. would that motivate you?disadvantage is if you can pass these credits by just taking tests, you won't learn the homework/test skills you need for college. again you need to focus on your reason for getting through school, so you will care about the steps that will help you and not skip)

Thanks thrill & Emily. Much appreciation.

And yes I've considered telling them but my mom just thinks I'm being "weak" and making excuses. I often times will organize my backpack and actually do and go through with my homework but unevitably, i start to lose all interest. Maybe schools should go through with the idea to give students incentives to make good grades.

Step one: Review the signs and symptoms of ADHD

Step two: start acting like you have everyone of them or at least enough to convince a doctor that you do.

Step three: suggest to an authority figure (i assume you're under age) that your friend at school starting taking adderall and is now doing alot better in school.

Step four: Go concince a doc that you have it and get a perscription of add meds Adderal is great, and it's not hard to get the diagnosis... and it will help your grades and give you a new thurst for learning... and make you badass at videogames, and cleaning... it'll help your fatass lose weight... it will make you more enjoyable to be around, it will make you better at pretty much everything... adderall is fucking awesome... /end

These are pretty good tips. The main point, I guess, is finding motivation. If you're already in the classroom you might as well pay attention because if you do it only half-way you're simply going to waste time and you end up having to go through the same things again. There's something about not regretting what you're doing that seems to work magic. If you decide to do something you should go all the way. It applies to a whole lot of other things, too.

Good luck! :)

Read "punished by rewards" to address your latter idea about incentivizing youth education.

I can relate to this. I am still in school, and I am just about ready to move to a deserted island so as to escape education and those pesky truancy regulations. I dropped out of school a year ago and now I homeschool myself online.

As a sociopath with an extremely limited attention span, I can tell you what might be useful:

Go to the gym or do push-ups every hour or so. Get your adrenaline pumping.

Take short breaks to brood, fidget, pace, whatever you need.

Set a goal for what you need to do for the day. Try to stick to it. Use motivation or punishment- whatever works for you. I am completely unmotivated by punishment. I usually use rewards, such as time for music, drawing, or video games.

If you're like me- and able to bully yourself into skipping work for immediate procrastination- try reasoning with yourself. If you're not like me, and don't constantly argue with yourself out loud, then disregard this one. :3

Hm... My attention is elsewhere now, can't think of anything else.

Good luck!
