You started this war, plunged Earth into chaos, and now the Internet is going to put you down, and restore the peace!
Please, if you are reading this, boycot the main stream media! Use Reddit and online credible and unbiased news sites to learn about the world. The Corperate media has a monopoly on TV.
It's important for all of you to understand that we are the sum of our experiences, and some of us spend a LOT of time in front of the TV. This gives us a lot of "experiences" and changes us on a fundamental level. It manipulates us, and forms oppinions in our mind that aren't our own. If you need evidence, please look at funding media campigns and their relation to US presidents. It's not the best president that gets picked, it's the president that gets the most corperate backing, and buys the most media advertising.
This is a sickness on our world. Please help to end it! Boycot the mainstream media!
Long live luna!
By boycotting the mainstream media we reduce the effect they have on society. We reduce their power. It's true some people are able to pick out the bias, but that doesn't mean everyone can. As a democracy, we depend on everyone having quality information so as to vote for the best leader. This means we have a responsiblity to those who cannot pick out bias, and the solution is to reduce the power of the Mainstream media by reducing their budgets, by making them less appealing to corperate advertisors, by reducing the advertisement's effectiveness, by reducing the number of people watching their propoganda.
I disagree. The problem with using Internet sources for news is that most are more op ed pieces (opinion not fact), and often promote half-baked conspiracy theories or personal agendas. A great documentary that explains the danger of the fall of traditional media is 'Page One' a documentary on the changes at the New York Times, with the advent of social media.
The result of traditional media's decline is there are fewer trained journalists on the ground. This means fewer stories and information coming out of areas like Iraq or Afghanistan for example. So we are getting less information today not more.
Professional journalists have an obligation to report unbiasedly and to FACT check. They will be sued if they don't. Internet hacks can promote whatever they want and usually tout their own agendas.
Obama's first election was won primarily using social media as a tool to mobilize the youth and ethnic votes, so what you said isn't accurate.
I think there is more danger in mass consumerism controlling people's minds, marketing, image brand. For youth, who you are as a person is defined by what electronics you use, what clothes you wear, and all that crap. A generation that puts so much energy and belief into themselves and their own importance is a worry.
I disagree with most of everything you've said. Professional Journalists can exist online. They don't depend on Mainstream Media. Additionally, Obama's election was not won from just social media.
What's more, mass consumerism comes from Humans wanting conveinance. It's true I want a cell phone. I want an android. Not becsaue it's stylish or I care about how my friends will see me, but because it's useful! This isn't mass consumerism. This is mass production of useful items.
It's true that mass consumerisn does exist on certain products, and it is related to the media's advertisings, but I'm attempting to boycott the Mainstream media as a way of taking back control over our country so that politicians and businesses can't simply buy our oppinion using the mainstream media.
