I find this selfesteem stuff funny. Do you really need to think about yourself and tell yourself how great you are? Why bother? Isn't it implied? If they really believed good in themselves, they wouldn't bother with such reaffirmations, because they'd be futile.
I've been made a "victim" of things before, though I'm glad for it, because like anything in life, it was a learning experience. True happiness comes from accepting life for what it is, and just being, and not reassuring yourself that you can continue on naive and dumb as you were before.
That being said, I've known ASPDs in person. They seem to be deeper to themselves than they are to others outside themselves, its just an observation and I could be wrong. I can see how they could sometimes seem to be "lacking in depth" when they're manipulating someone, the prey not really realizing anything, because they wouldn't.
