I'm also firstborn.

My three sisters are completely different from me but also from together.

My big sister isn't more social or more successful than I am. She did get more attention, though. I don't know if she's smarter than me. That's not to say that I haven't noticed older siblings generally being more successful.

All of those listed facts are not true on my case haha. I am the older brother. My younger brother is 17 and avirgin. He is taller, and I'm sure he is straight

I'm the youngest of 4. Are you saying I'm gay??!! LOL - I disagree with all the points except #1 - that works in my favour.  

Me to. I am the tallest, strongest and smartest looking. And of course the most humble.....naturally.

I like to think I'm humble too, but my ego always betrays me.

Anyway Edvard, Inky... if you look into the social aspects of birth order, a lot that has been taken for granted has come out untrue. So yea, there are effects, but there is a lot of myth as well.

I strongly doubt the male gayness and being short are effects of childhood experiences. Those things go deep and are biological.

I don't think the difference in IQ is about upbringing either.

I do think I do socially better because I had an older sibling that taught me the cheats. I'm actually very thankful for that. I might have done better if I had to fight my way like he did, but I strongly doubt it. I think he does better because he has a stronger focus and more anxiety as a drive.

So you think height, iq and gayness are all entirely determined by our genes and have nothing to do with environment/ social life/ upbringing? I'm pretty sure that's wrong.

All I'm saying about myself is that I'm a first born.

I think your maximum IQ and height are genetic. That means under perfect circumstances you can get that tall or that smart. If you are born a dwarf it doesn't matter that you get the most nutritious food, you won't be 6 feet.

True, your growth can be stunted by poor nutrition but even within populations with that, everyone is not equally tall. Those who have genes to be tall will still be the tallest in the group, even if they would have been even taller with proper food.

In the Western world, unless you live in a really weird family, all the kids get enough food to eat, so in that case social factors do not affect them as much as what they are born with.
