I have not travelled by myself completely. But I used to go to Europe with family when a child. Then when I was 20, i went for 6 weeks with another female. Since then, I have been several more times. It is fairly safe. Safer when you don't obviously look like you are an American.  Eat where the locals eat. Don't be loud, wear flashy jewelry.
