Has anyone here read the book 'The Wisdom of Psychopaths?

What is your opinion of Kevin Dutton's ideas?

I'm actually still in the process of reading it. So far I'm not the biggest fan of his voice, but I like that he's drawing comparisons between different social groups, like psychopaths and surgeons, and so on.

Ok,  What I liked about it was his view that psychopathic behavior is a question of focus.

In other words, being so focused on reward that you tune out everything else. Especially negative emotions.

I enjoyed the book mostly for its readability.

It did mention studies on refraining from emotional reactions to strong stimuli where the Buddhist monks showed high levels of detachment and discipline that paralleled the sociopaths.

I'd rather be detached by choice by training the mind so anyone can do it by discipline

No. I don't read much these days.

I have several small shelves full of books I've owned for years that I still haven't read. None of them are about psychopathy either.

For me I enjoyed his discussion on being focused on the present. Especially during a crisis or in danger.

I read it and liked the positive spin. Psychopaths are something like enlightened Buddhists, living in the present. In one chapter, the author visited a mental ward with really dangerous hard-core psychopaths. They turned out to be very mellow in conversation. They suggested non-violent solutions for most problems.

They appeared mellow and soft spoken?

They are in a mental ward. They are drugged up to the point of acting non-violent. They are also, by their very diagnosis,  liars and manipulators.
