An army of clones would be so much better.

If the army was made up entirely of clones, the country would be more efficient.

This army would be born and raised outside society; all the clones would see would lie within the walls of the training camps.

No civilians would care what would happen to these clones; they wouldn't know them.

There would be no benefits to pay to widows of fallen soldiers.

People wouldn't care as much about where the soldiers were sent; they wouldn't care if they died or not. They wouldn't be as involved - many people have the misconception that clones are somehow sub-human.

------

I wonder if any governments will take advantage of this. Do you think it would work?

I disagree. We need those eager kids in school who want to join the army to go and die for us. Besides, that cloning method would be best used on animals... Then again I just woke up so I'm pretty grouchy and I'm hungry.

I'm sure they could find another profession, I mean, toilet cleaning is noble enough.

I just had this thought because of the recent issue of NewScientist - the first human clones have been made. Sadly, I don't think they will be developed past the embryo stage.

Personally I think that science should go to stem research to further advance the humans that are alive right now. Did you know we have a dormant gene in our body that allows us to grow our limbs back?

Of course, I was just suggesting a way to improve the army situation. Genetic engineering could be used for that, too - though no doubt many people would have a problem with that! It's bad enough with GM crops...

Holy shit, that's cool! I wonder if it can be 'awakened'. That could be handy. Also, epigenetics is a pretty cool area of research; for example a methyl group can switch a gene off, and removing it can switch the gene on again.

This subject only interests me because my major WAS Microbiology...I had dreams of splicing animals together to create something even more interesting. My main thought was a Griffin; size manipulation is easy enough, the only problem is the thing wouldn't be able to fly because of the weight of the total creature...the wing span of something as big a lion would need to be at least 57' long just to stay in the air. Now, that comes to problem number 2, there's no way that the griffin would be able to take off unless it has some serious height (the wingspan would prevent any take-off from the ground).
