Without emotion we could be robotic, however the emotionless would have to decide to make something of themselves. If the emotionless did decide on a routine, that would be an interesting case, seeing how the emotionless wouldn't care if they carried on. Nothing would sink in as good or bad, whatever they do will be pointless, so there will be no motivation, maybe even no curiosity either cause the answer would never please the emotionless, no matter what, the interest just wouldn't be there. Emptiness is a sensation, it commonly draws sadness and depression that can get worse if it doesn't get solved, or it can pass, so long as the beholder keeps busy. For a psychopath, there are cases where they feel empty all the time. For them, where sadness is in order, they get angry or frustrated instead. In that case they are prone to dumping it on others, since consideration for others doesn't exactly come to them without a price or profit. A malicious person, psychopathic or not, will eventually feel empty. There is nothing rewarding about recieving without earning it, this could in part be the reason why the wicked have fantasies of unlimited wealth. A house made of gold isn't enough. As for desire, it's mostly linked joy in some way shape or form. Desire I would say is not an emotion, it's a wish. Those experiencing emptiness have a desire for the sensation to end. Still it's interesting, without emotion, none of these would come into play. I don't know of any methods to become free of emotion. I can understand why one would want to be free of them, sometimes they are difficult to cope with, but without them we might as well be obliterated.
by SensitiveSoulEven a computer runs on emotion. It needs to be turned on, someone WANTS that to happen.
A computer is a tool, in essence it's an extension of the user. One thing though, computers are made with emotion. The amount of blood sweat and tears that went into it. We can't just make a computer from scratch either, it's all cloned and shared progress. There are people out there trying to show the others that their work is best, and there is a lot of that still going on in the making of every piece of hardware and software.
by MissVirus pointed out:
Emotion is still what drives attachment. Even the DESIRE to stay alive, is emotion driven.
No, it's not. It's self-preservation, which has nothing to do with emotion. Self-preservation is an instinct.
Not everything we do is driven by emotion. If it was, people like myself wouldn't feel neutral most of the time.
Some things are driven by instinct or by whatever our physical body tells us it needs to remain alive.
For example: I can eat, shit and sleep without emotion being involved at all.
