Do you actually want to kill people?
Theoretically speaking, is there a percentage that would balance it out? What are the odds of getting caught that would prevent a person from committing a terrible crime?
What about the odds of being able to successfully complete the crime. For example, if you were 100% sure you wouldn't get caught, but only 50% sure you'd end up killing the person instead of being killed/harmed yourself?
Also changing the subject, would you prefer life in prison or lethal injection?

The odds increase or decrease depending on a number of things - Victim type, location, possibility of witnesses etc.
The greater the risk, the more likelihood that I won't commit the crime. I'm a risk-taker, but I'm not stupid. I'm not prepared to jeopardize my freedom for a foolish risk.

That's why it's better to target specific victims. With the right deception and lure, almost anyone could be easily killed while minimizing personal injury.

Life in prison. There is no death penalty here in Australia anymore anyway.
