I'm wondering if it would be possible to have a functioning society made up solely of sociopaths, and I'm thinking not. For example, every society has to have laws -- not nearly as many as a lot of empaths make up for their own mysterious reasons, but enough so you can reasonably expect to be able to drive to the store without dying in a car crash or a shooting. Then there are social mores and courtesies -- if people are always talking during the movies, letting their dogs shit wherever, cutting in line, introducing vermin to their neighborhood because they don't like taking out their garbage, etc., etc., etc.... well, obviously life becomes pretty hellish pretty fast. Although a lot of sociopaths adhere to rules of behavior for purely pragmatic reasons (generally to avoid drawing fire), these same people will break any rule if 1) there's a payoff and 2) they can get away with it. Obviously, that already happens sufficiently now, in a society dominated by empaths. So it seems that a sociopath nation would be pure Hell to live in.
