How did you know?

I started to look things up after a couple of friends said that I am a sociopath and one said I was a psychopath (still not sure of the difference).  So I started to read lots of stuff but mostly it was jaded ex's having a dig or vent "warning" people.  Very one sided and that was just really annoying.

Then stumbled onto this site and ME's book.  Although I'm not into labels but it intrigues me that someone else out there is pretty similar to me not just the environment but what was going on in my head.

Having said that, I am curious how did you know you (anyone) fit into the label of a sociopath without being evaluated because I think psyc assessments is a load of crap.  Everyone lies on them.

And yes I am asking even though I'm not into labels. :P

Use the idea of a sociopath to figure out what traits you have and whether you like those traits or not.

After reading all the traits, I fit all of them perfectly.  Excluding the criminal records.  I have always known about these and it was just weird seeing it all in a list on websites and people telling others to watch out for people with the same traits.  It doesn't bother me.  You can say I'm use to it and it's always been me.  I'm not sure if like is the right word but I definitely don't not want them.  It has gotten me out of tight situations (albeit they were ones I walk into and create myself :P) and have a bit of fun.

Some things do throw me off.  For example, I am in a long term relationship and don't intend to leave.  This person keeps me grounded and I love him for that.  I mean I do go off tangent every now and weirdly it remind me why I'm with this person.

That's good that you are in a long term relationship, that is something I envy.

It's not something you want to go spouting off about either, it will make people look at you funny. (Edit: Sociopathic traits that is)

Its very tough though.  This person is very emotional and gets depressed and anxious easily.  All I want to do is put a big red hand print cross the face (not mine of course).  There is also me being very restless rather frequently so I go on a having fun spree.  It seems like a mini double life and then I'm over it and go back to normal until the next wave hits me.

I have a lot of friends but only 1 who we also believe could be one too.  We talk about this quite a lot because we share all the same traits.  The others who suggested that I could be one also brushed it off at the same time because they thought I was too nice.  :P

I think what has help me not knowing I was similar to the label was that I was as opened as I could to my friends without looking like a complete psyco.  However, I always try to hide a lot of it with being overly nice and protective which is what you are meant to do with friends right?

You sound very conflicted on the whole concept of labels.

I realized I was a sociopath because i saw a little boy break his arm and i jizzed myself uncontrollably.

LMAO! I have an image thanks.

Yeah I do. Probably because I never fitted into any label as me. I just sort of molded myself to a label depending on who I'm with and adding just enough of me to be consistenT and easier to remember.

Sociopath is little more than humanity at it's most natural, it is the part of the psyche that Sigmund Freud called the Id. It is what drives us, and is for most, simply a subconscious force. But for others, for those that are more in tune with their inner desires, and accept them, they see this Id more clearly and associate with it...  It is the part of us that is constantly at odds with what freud called the super ego - Which is the part of us that we are told we should be, through social programming. and then there is the mediator side of us... the ego, that helps us determine which of these two psychic forces to follow at a given time.

What seperates most "sociopaths" from the rest of the world is a confidence in self - some label it narcisism. That drives them to believe their way to be superior than societies, they are their own gods, their own morality. This in the negative can get them labeled anti-social, or social deviants, or sociopathic as the term goes.

It is my belief that a sociopath resides in us all. That it is a sliding scale we all fall on in our own way... it isn't a neurological defacet and it isn't unique... It is simply the animal side to humanity... the denied taboo the truth of who we are, under the lovely masks that society says we are to wear...
