 I'm still interested in the question of how likely it is that a sociopath knows that he or she is one. If this has been fully and finally addressed before, just point me to the thread.  Thanks.

Sociopathy isn't a valid label. So, technically, no-one can know they're a sociopath, but for arguments's sake, let's assume the label exists with AsPD. Getting diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder is one sure way to become self-aware. Other than that, there is enough information online about AsPD, sociopathy, and psychopathy that someone could self-diagnose if they wanted to. Though, I personally wouldn't suggest it.

And I am motivated to ask this question, being an empath, because I am trying to decide whether the sociopath in my professional life should be held accountable in some way for his destructive behavior.  But then again, if he's a sociopath, what does accountability mean?
