did you know that i actually cringe and generally don't watch the videos posted on this site? it's because it's a sociopath site, and i don't want to accidently run into a scene where there is blood and guts everywhere or people getting stabbed or death metal music and all the other extreme things you people watch so you can prove to yourselfs your identity.

this one says cult, and i'm geussing it's going to be death metal. passes

Listening to death metal or violent music has nothing to do with proving who we are. We listen to certain types of music for the same reason you listen to certain types of music - because you identify with it in some way.

 This.

I listen to everything, but lean more on rap.

Wow Luna: You are gracious to support a forum for people with tastes so adverse that it makes you cringe. How many people are that inclusive or tolerant?

Thanks for being one of those unique people, Luna. I can see how you attract other such unique open minds who don't push to judge/apologize for different tastes. This is really amazing to bring such people together.

I invited two friends who are good in heart and spirit, while having darker past in music, graphic images, humor, etc. As long as the spirit is creative, I don't mind; but the dark energies like witchcraft or sorcery/voodoo I can't be around either!

I expect to see some interesting creative projects produced out of this group. After research on dangers of mixing negative with positive energy, I try to avoid that. Maybe you are more sensitive, like having perfect pitch where you cringe. While I have more tolerance for being off key. That's not necessarily good.

It depends, TK. As for genre, you are right, tastes differ. That is one level. So I agree with you on that point.

The spirit of the music, humor, or relationship/connection with the audience matters also. There is a difference between "mean spirited" or negative vibes, and creative positive energy expressed in different forms. People can pick up different vibes.

If someone listens to rap and it makes them feel they can express their thoughts and empower themselves to deal with life in positive ways, that is one relationship/connection. If it reinforces or aggravates their rage, where they lose control and it causes them more grief and suffering, that's destructive not creative.

BTW when I first heard NIN it made me "imagine" what it might feel like to want to shoot Drano. It was just so intense, I could barely think straight. I had to work out all the ideas it inspired, before my thoughts went back to normal. I wrote a bunch of angry political rants to the music to express grief. Some of the meanest lyrics I ever wrote, that I felt bad afterwards. It was supposed to be spoofs on blaming parties by stereotypes, most was funny but got too mean. If those were demonic spirited words, they are now contained in lyrics as cages.

A lot of it appeared to be the same mass rage at church and state authority for being hypocrites, but written with political lyrics protesting and pushing reforms. Very mean stuff. This is the side of me I'm still trying to direct in positive ways.

There's a certain beauty in destruction and chaos. And believe me, rage can feel good... very, very good.
