 Purpose? Now that is a huge laugh to me. Pray, what is the purpose of this place? It's just a place for mindfuckery. Occasionally we learn something about the world or life.. but it has no real purpose other than what you make of it. I think that people like you will have issues with chat because you don't know how to be here, and just carry on regular conversations. So of course, chat would seem pointless to you.

 I'll occasionally lurk in the chat, hoping to see someone arguing. The fact that it's instant will make it more entertaining.  

 Why would anything seem "on"? 

 I'd like to see some arguments in there too. I'll have to start one with someone sometime. Arguing can be fun.

I like the chat. Some things are just easier to say in a chat format than a forum.

No search function for future reference of chat logs, but that in itself makes it a little freeing too.

 i was actually thinking of databasing public chat logs and allowing them to be searchable. 

people would need to watch what they say in public that, but private chat would be available and that would certainly not be databased!! 

the way i see it, public chat is fair game. we like to document what was said here. people mention that a lot. being able to loko back and search the public chat shouldn't be a huge privacy issue.

Since I could theoretically just leave it open on a tab to get above the 91 limit, and that could easily be copy/pasted somewhere else, I don't mind the log since it could be logged through inconvenient means already anyway.

Yeah, if you can do that without too much effort I support the idea. If people want to talk privately there are other means...
