Time is the exchange of energy between particles and/or the medium they exist in.

 This is called "thermodynamics."  Time may only be relateable to consciousness, for it notices changes in state.  Look at it like the frames of a television show or computer graphics, etc.   "FPS" -- frames per second.  The frames are at a Planck scale.  These are state changes at a quantum level.  Our macroscopic perception rests in the fourth dimension.  We observe three dimensional things across a fourth dimensional line.  However, there is the "arrow of time" that can be a little weird.  It is entropy, which effects we generally see because of that one direction in time we sequence in our mind.

As I said, look up Tom Campbell and his "My Big TOE" and you may find some very interesting correlations of Planck scale being the speed at which reality is refreshed to new states.  He also equates love as the emotive reaction to bring more and more consitency and persistance, organizing and maintaining, against the forces of entropy.  That's the basically physics view of good and bad or whatever.

Time isn't just a lattice that the universe sits in. We as consciousnesses can fast foward through time by putting ourselfs physically at a higher energy state. This makes time go by more quickly from our perspective, and consequently, as we look around the universe about us, we find it is aging. The process from which it breaks down is faster.

This is proof that our consciousness are independant of eachother. We are able to interface with eachother physcially through data we keep about eachother, but each conecciousness is the window to it's own unique, dynamic universe. Woot, if this is true, than that proves we are special. It also means that universes can breed as we have more physical children.

why on earth does the consciousness use this framework that is the physical world? 

 ...Some interesting things with using dimensional basis for a lot of this you can go and check out Rob Bryanton, and his "Imagining Ten Dimensions."  The "higher" dimension, the smaller the scale.  Above 3rd and 4th dimensions comes to the 5th and 6th, nearly becoming timeless, at least by our standards of perception.  We reach alternate timelines, alternate starting conditions for the universe, and so on.

 ...A couple things I just thought of.  Maybe more than a couple.  There has been some suggestion that antimatter is temporally reversed matter.  Our arrow of time is biased toward entropy.  However, anti-time would see this as its own formation.  As our universe expands and disperses or whatever, our reverse time correlate universe would be on the approach of becoming.  It is like a bounce.  Each would inherently be stabilizng the other, making the initial break of symmetry that started things rolling, actually equalizes it, so while things appear different, separate, and unique, the reverse is only playing with your preceptions.  There is absolutely no difference.  There is no separateness.  There is all just illusion and playing a game.
