 You may be right.  I have a sibling who  - while not diagnosed as a sociopath -  has many sociopathic traits.  I always believed hers to come from dissociation.  But perhaps not from shame,  but from having one's needs go unmet in childhood?  Even Lund in her book  admits that this was likely a large factor in her becoming sociopathic (as opposed to the "born that way"  argument).

I'd argue dissociation's a large part of why some people in real life think I fit the sociopath label.

not having emotions is very attractive to someone terrified of them. extremeely sociopathic people (those with truly little empathy) must find this fanboy like fascination both hilarious and gratifying
