You mean the Japanese guy makes a bird and a human? Huh yeah I would not get the meaning of that. I agree that it is a mysterious film. My favorite aspect of the film is that it revives the film noir genre. It doesn't force itself on the viewer.
I haven't seen Melancholia. I considered it, but seemed like it would be too... melancholy. I'm saving AntiChrist for a dark day or days, depending on how long the mood lasts. I saw you mentioned Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. I like that one a lot. I have a strange soft spot for the quirky/dark romance. Yes, the devil has a soft spot. It where I've been hit on the head several times.
Trying to think of some others like that.. hmmm? Punch Drunk Love. Best adam sandler movie ever. I'll think of more later. Can you tell I like movies?
Edit: Lars and the Real Girl. Garden State.
A friend of mine has told me to watch Lars and the Real Girl so many times! I may do that soon. Punch Drunk Love is good. I liked Secretary (no one is surprised I'm sure) ah what other movie.. Blue Valentine is kind of an anti-romance movie but I did like it. It's rare to see a movie where the relationship is actually realistic, even if it is sad and painful to watch.
Melancholia is a really great movie but this is coming from someone that loves The Fountain. The cinematography is beautiful and I really like the soundtrack as well. I'd say there's more concrete story to Melancholia than The Fountain. I'm a total clutz so I'll say that my odd taste is due to falling down too many stairs but I do like dark movies.
