I took my puppy in to the vet today, and he gave her a Lyme disease vaccine. I have now read several online articles (one of them from Cornell University school of Veterinary Medicine) stating most emphatically that the vaccine is not safe for puppies, is contraindicated for them, and can cause inflamed joints, permanent damge to the heart and central nervous sysetm , as well as cause acute kidney failure months post-vaccination. I now have to spend hundreds of dollars consulting with an Holistic vet. Is my vet a sociopath?
by Buttered ToastIs this a serious question?
Indeed, it is. I have been very upset all evening, and am wondering if my beautiful puppy is going to have long-term problems. I think perhaps as Nietzsche said is the way of evil, it is a group sociopathology at work here: My vet belongs to a large group who seem quite mercenary and given to aggressive treatment, for financial gain. I have now read that a course of antibiotics may be an antidote, but shall likely have to go to an alternative vet to get such treatment.
Did you bring up the question with the vet? How recent were the articles? It could be as simple as the vet not having read those articles yet. Were there any advertisements around these articles? Were any of them pharmaceutical companies? Have the reputations, influence, and/or credentials been bought? Does anyone stand to profit in this situation? I strongly doubt your vet is a sociopath by the scant information given, so far.
No... I imagine a sociopath would simply rather hold your dogs head under water in a toilet than give it a vaccine... He sounds to me like he's just an opportunistic fuck that's happy to take the money of an overly sentimental idiot that's willing to pay for an animals hospital bill.
