This is the strangest forum I've ever been on....

I cannot seem to make it out.  I can't tell what's actually going on;  who the members really are,  what their perspectives are,  or what their interaction with other members means,  or to what purpose they are posting.

I've belonged to numerous forums:  Some scholarly, some academic,  some political,  some based on crime-solving, some spiritual,  a few about pet ownership.  I've never encountered this level of....I cannot think of the word for it.  Strange? Murky?  It reminds me of Hamlet telling the King,  "Chameleon-like,  I eat the air.  You cannot feed caipons so."  Is this part of the sociopath's shape-shifting characteristic???   Question:  Did author ME Thomas imagine that this would be the shape her forum would take?

Much of what is said here is a reference of a reference to something older posted here. At face value it probably looks funny.

If you're patient, reading through old threads can fix that. Sort of.

I imagine so. What more could she possibly have expected on a forum like this?

Mind you, most people here aren't sociopaths. They're just morons.

Yes,  I realize that when one is a newbie,  one is not going to understand inside jokes,  etc.  This sort of intellectual, campy and vampy banter is very big on the JREF Randi forum,  for example.  Or in a gay bar.  But something else seems to be at work here.  It's as if I've stumbled into a subculture,  but I can't tell what kind.  I feel drawn in,  turned off,  intrigued,  all at once.  Of course,  its probably dumb to be asking help of the very people who have created the atmosphere which is confusing me.

I have actually been impressed by the level of intelligent sarcasm and quick rejoinders.  I have only noticed 2 morons thus far.
