I mean you can't really just have two people duke it out here by yelling "FIGHT!" at them, they need to be genuinely provoked.

I suppose inventing a scoring system could be a fun idea, and "best of" moments could be quoted.

 Well, I meant that there could be scorekeeping type of thread, where the whole forum can find its aggregated scores.

 ...Come to think of it, placing bets and gambling on some of it could prove entertaining, too.  Like horseracing.  When March Madness rolls around we could launch the tournament and put everyone in proper brackets.  Would scoring require consensus?  I cannot see ANYONE the forum would trust as referee or judge.  Maybe more of a "Survivor" system?  Get some color commentating...  Etc.  The possibilities might be endless, but very fun.

Except if those arguing realize there's a scoreboard, it could alter their natural activity.

This happens all to often to keep score. Just look at any one of these threads...slug fests all around.

 Ha!  We should design the scoring to promote typical behaviors unawares.  Definitely open it all up to deception, have it be extremely "cheat-friendly."  It would maybe give some of that activity more interest.  In a way, everyone stands to win something.
