A moral behind choosing to think logically.

Hi everyone,

So I was standing in the kitchen waiting for the stupid oven to get hot enough so I can put a pizza in, and I was looking at the cabinets and stuff, and my mom is a stay at home mom, so she has these projects that she does, and slowly slowly she remodels the entire house inside and out. Anyway, I was looking at all of the work she had done, and I got to thinking about how she must really have a lot of pride in her work. That's work is literally how she chooses to exist in this world.

Anyway, I got to thinking about how I should take pictures of her work because it would support her and give her more pride and happiness in it, and then I began thinking about taking pictures everyday of like the kitch from one perspective and then creating a time lapse video of it.

But then I realized something. If I were to do that, the video would literally show my mom and dad doing the SAME thing every single day of their lives (besides weekends). Wouldn't that make them sad though? What if it makes them depressed about thelr life?

Is it immoral to find someone who is happy with the little reality they have chosen for them, and point out all the facts to them about why they are wrong?

Love,

Luna

How do you know she really is happy about doing the same routine for so long, that it's not just a mask she puts up while she just don't know what else to do?

That's quite possible. That would be a life lived in fear wouldn't it. Then again, she's been married 30 years.

I don't think it's true though. I think it's pride. In her world, she playes the role of the person she wants to be. She's happy with that role. It's mostly pain free, and very safe. Some people just dont have expectations for thelr lives. In their mind, they ARE the stereotype, and they have pride in that fact.

It seems to be a social game they play. They really get into it as you see.

If she stays at home and chooses to remodel the house every day, I can imagine being quite bored. What else does she do?

She gardens, cooks, and takes care of us, we're all teenagers though, so mostly she just works on her projects. We have a nanny so she does most of the laundry and cleaning. She's also part of the historical society of our town so she spends time on that.

As of now, remodeling the house sounds like just one of her hobbies she chooses to do. Well you know her better than we do, you can also talk to her and figure out how she feels about doing it.

Or help her with it?

I don't really see the issue here. Obviously you're only speculating when pointing out that she may get depressed or think of herself differently if you point out your mom's monotonous nature. There is still the chance that she isn't even able to speculate what is wrong with it and shrug off your comments. But if she is able to understand what you are saying (even if that does make her depressed) isn't that still a good thing. You'd be giving her the opportunity to realize what she doesn't like about her life, and thus change it for the better and gain more life fulfillment while she's still young enough to do so.
