The Internet makes us all sociopaths

Tell me what you think of this idea, here's what I've got so far:

In normal society we are accepted or ostracized based on a social code.  Pro social behavior is met with smiles, praise, acceptance and freindship. Antisocial behavior is met with scorn, rejection, and isolation.

These are reversed in an online setting however.  What would be considered antisocial behavior is cheered on and garners great attention from a global audience.  One romp through the threads on /b/ or r/spacedicks is all you need for proof of this.  Pro-social behavior (politeness, honesty, sincerity, etc.) is usually met with indifference and isolation.

This environment will ultimately select for and nurture everybody's underlying sociopathic tendancies (dishonesty, trolling, dissociation from empathy, etc.) .

THEREFORE: Just as the real world's social code encourages you to hide your sociopathy, the internet's social scene encourages and rewards you for letting your inner sociopath run wild.

I would say society in general nurtures sociopathic tendancies while also telling us we need to put up a front of being mister or misses goody while we do it.

I have used the Internet in the opposite manner. If I act antisocial it is out of sincerity, nothing else. I have been myself most of the time and spoken the truth most of the time. Also I have been in many contexts online where people have been both nice and honest. It does exist.

Being honest in here though is pearls for swine...

I think you make a great point. Have you ever heard of the prisoner's dilemna? Here is a link to the wikipedia article explaining the prisoner's dilemna:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner%27s_dilemma

Basically the prisoner's dilemna says that when you have a short term relationship it makes sense to be sociopathic, and when you have a long term relationship it makes sense to be altruistic. On the internet since relationship are short term there is little incentive to invest honesty and effort into a relationship. Even if you do invest in a short term internet relationship, you will not have enough time to see returns commensurate to your investment. However in the real world relationships are comparitively long term, and investing in the relationship is self beneficial. This is because, your returns from investment are greater then the initial investment of honesty, friendship and effort.

I believe OP has stumbled upon the concept the prisoner's dilemna, independently.

Maybe MTV. Gangsta nig rap such as this fine specimen:

Maybe as a society after a long period of enlightenment, we are moving towards a more sociopathic culture. Or maybe feminism lead to a generation of bad mothering. Bad relationships with mothers has been cited as a source of narcissism. This in turn has create a generation of youth with a high degree of narcissism. Could it be the internet and technoisolation in general. Tell me your thoughts on this matter.
