Tell me what you think of this idea, here's what I've got so far:
In normal society we are accepted or ostracized based on a social code. Pro social behavior is met with smiles, praise, acceptance and freindship. Antisocial behavior is met with scorn, rejection, and isolation.
These are reversed in an online setting however. What would be considered antisocial behavior is cheered on and garners great attention from a global audience. One romp through the threads on /b/ or r/spacedicks is all you need for proof of this. Pro-social behavior (politeness, honesty, sincerity, etc.) is usually met with indifference and isolation.
This environment will ultimately select for and nurture everybody's underlying sociopathic tendancies (dishonesty, trolling, dissociation from empathy, etc.) .
THEREFORE: Just as the real world's social code encourages you to hide your sociopathy, the internet's social scene encourages and rewards you for letting your inner sociopath run wild.
