Sociopath Community Epiphanies

One of my friends hit his head when he was around 15, basically a pull-up bar broke. He had to have a surgery, and got a deaf right ear thanks to that. His usual story is that something "switched" in his brain and he changed after that accident.

Have you guys ever had an `epiphany`? Something just clicks, and you decide to change your life, yourself, or your life goals. I find this topic hugely interesting. There's even a word for it, `epiphany`. Beautiful word.

Anyway, that guy used to be a genius, he went to Uni when he was 11. Now he's my age and hasn't graduated, and he keeps creating these ridiculous companies. E.g. I visited him a long time ago and cooked some crap, scrambled eggs if I remember correctly. That was the first time he ever cooked. The next week, Monday, he decides to become a chef of his own restaurant with his parents' money (bankrupt within a month). He used to be smart, but I swear he's like that Tom Greene from fucking Freddie Got Fingered now. Fun company, but you can't take him seriously.

Whatever "switched" in his brain damaged it for good.

I've heard of similar stories from other people, sometimes very cool stories. I really looked up to this French-Swedish couple that I met a long time ago. He (the husband) apparently used to be, in his own words, a loser and a hermit. Then something clicked when he was around 30 when he realizes he is going to waste away, and decides he will do something with his life, which he did. He is that weird mix of introvert and extrovert that you rarely meet.

I know this is not a very usual topic here, but I'm interested. Have any of you experienced any sudden but dramatic change in your life? If so, could you share a few details?

I know stories about people's personality changing after brain damage. They like other food, or they are less controlled and more impulsive, and more instinctual.

But epiphanies? No. I doubt brain damage can ever be a good thing, although I read some articles about people waking up from comas and speaking a different language:

I just want other people to read this shit and be confused whether it's part of the post or not.

I did once I went to college and found out that there was no way I could have the same experience that my parents had. (Which they both still claim to be the best time of their lives)

Not really, no. The biggest changes in my life happened randomly, just because I suddenly made decisions because I just felt like it.

A shadow not so dark.

Edvard:

Thanks Ed, for posting the vid and the article. The video of the guy speaking with a Swedish tone was just bizarre. Found in a motel with multiple passports and Chinese contacts, and now believes he's Swedish after brain damage. Good story. I'm glad you replied.

As you say, brain damage is unlikely to benefit you. My friend certainly didn't benefit from his brain injury. I meant epiphany in the personal sense. It may feel very real but does not necessarily lead to positive or practical outcomes.

So have you ever experienced anything like that?

user:

Sure, you can have a sudden dramatic change in your life without it being a result of some realization or a trigger. But then what did trigger it, and what did you do?

AliceInWonderland: Alright. I'd be interested in the full story.

Enutsur: I don't get that.
