We should recreate the rep system on the old sc to give these erep fags the feeling that they should post more to raise those precious digits that make them feel important

who upvotes anyway, thats a broken system once people find out erep relies on it.
Enough people do, but yeah it only had any semblance of purity from him counting them up when there was no otherwise official system in place.

i just told you, it would be a function of how many times people quote you, whether in a positive or negative manner. and downvotes would lower it but not by too much
How would it judge if it was a negative or positive quotation?
Sounds like upvotes/downvotes with extra steps, steps many won't take from ignoring the quote function entirely.

Rep is only a quantifier or an indicator, and not very reliable. The best way to determine someone's influence really is through asking other members. No way around it. Best way to find out how much e-rep someone has is through informal means.
So unless someone comes up with a decent algorithm that includes a variety of complicated factors all we can do is indicate the probability of someone's influence, via points. But if we do that, we should call it for what it is and not place as much value on rep like many other forums do, and that includes old SC.
