Honestly I think it's to show that's she's not as thirsty and stalkerish as she comes across because he's obviously into it (I would argue context and dates need to be a thing but-).

yeah it is sad. when I was younger there was a period in my life that I used to let myself be treated as a fuck toy by a few different guys and it was not an emotionally fulfilling experience. I had strong feelings for the guys but it being unrequited, meanwhile I was letting them use me, was not very nice to my self-esteem
