Squatting at the gym is an awesome exercise. Usually people hate this exercise, and hate leg-day. But that gym-bro mentality shouldn't be taken into consideration. I don't mind them, they offer a good workout. Gets the blood pumping, and it does so quickly, not like some lame-ass cardio would.
Plus cardio is just like a warm-up, run to the gym or something if you're that keen on it, using the belt seems kinda weird to me. I get the appeal of it, but it's just so god damn boring.
The only issue I have with squats is that you might tire out your legs too much and have them be sore the next day. But all is well. Just a day of having to limp around, and then you're all golden, free to run like the wind.

My favourite is the bench press.
My least favourite are the leg raises.
My most meh one is the squat.
My favorite exercise are weighted dips, cable rows because I can get a mega stretch on the lats, and chest flyes.
I don't bother with legs much because I'm not an athlete anymore. When I do, I focus on hip dominant rather than quad dominant exercises.
My strongest muscles by far are back and legs, which led me to pull 495 on the deadlift.
Pulling muscles = Stronk
Pushing muscles = Meh.

When I went to the gym regularly Everyday was Leg day.

Can't do squats now because my knees are now made of uncooked spaghetti and pain
I mostly just do some light stretch drills and some treadmill with the TV on, otherwise I've seen from my metabolism that some walking around with a well managed diet's enough to feel healthy.
Beyond that, blending drills into your every day behaviors has a way of keeping it half-alive, like how I do my old dance drills and Taekwondo kicks for things like carrying dishes or opening doors and turning on lights with my feet.
I find making exercise fun... challenging, as I don't get runner's high out of it and "getting into shape" at the moment makes me look more manish (eww). I've had more luck in the past getting in shape during physical activities like parkour or gymnastics, as lifting weights in the garage or going to the gym's boring as shit.
