Letting Our Defects Go
"If [character defects] contributed to our health and happiness, we would not have come to such a state of desperation."
Narcotics Anonymous Basic Text pg. 34
Getting started on the Sixth and Seventh Steps isn't always easy. We may feel as though we have so much wrong with us that we are totally defective. We might feel like hiding under a rock. Under no circumstance would we want our fellow addicts to know about our inadequacies.
We will probably go through a time of examining everything we say and do in order to identify our character defects and make sure we suppress them. We may look back at one particular day, cringing at what we're certain is the most embarrassing thing we've ever said. We become determined to be rid of these horrible traits at all costs. But nowhere in the Sixth or Seventh Steps does it say we can learn to control our defects of character. In fact, the more attention we focus on them, the more firmly entrenched they will become in our lives. It takes humility to recognize that we can't control our defects any more than we can control our addiction. We can't remove our own defects; we can only ask a loving God to remove them.
Letting go of something painful can be as difficult as letting go of something pleasant. But let's face it - holding on is a lot of work. When we really think about what we're holding onto, the effort just isn't worthwhile. It's time to let go of our character defects and ask God to remove them.
Just for today: I'm ready to have my defects removed. I will let go and allow a loving Higher Power to care for me.

oh boy, what religion are you gonna try?
This is a copy and paste from a book called Just for Today: Daily Meditations for Recovering Addicts by NAWS Inc.
It just says higher power... not religion. Narcotics Anonymous is spiritual not religious. There's a huge difference. And for everyone what they define their higher power as is unique to the individual usually.
It just says higher power... not religion.
That's still bad.
You just don't get it.
Explain it for me?
If it's based off of AA theory, I've probably heard it though.

for me higher power is following a path of spiritual wellness that supports, internal well being and an intrinsic wholeness that resonates with your soul and gives you understanding and peace.
and part of that spiritual wellness for me is following teachings and practices that guide you on a path of discovery, introspection, and enlightenment.
it's difficult for me to explain but, it's just in you and in everything and you are in touch with that. and it helps you to have understand and knowledge that allows you to operate differently and more peacefully. it even promotes physiological and mental health as well.
Chanting is as below:
Om Sat Chit Ananda Parabrahma Purushothama Paramatma Sri Bhagavathi Sametha Sri Bhagavathe Namaha
Meaning:
Om - We are calling on the highest energy, of all there is
Sat - The formless
Chit - Consciousness of the universe
Ananda- Pure love, bliss and joy
Para brahma --The supreme creator. One of the God in Hinduism.
Purushothama -Who has incarnated in human form to help guide mankind
Paramatma -Who comes to me in my heart, and becomes my inner voice whenever I ask. Paramatma means god.
Sri Bhagavati - The divine mother, the power aspect of creation
Sametha- Together within
Sri Bhagavate -The Father of creation which is unchangeable and permanent
Namaha- I thank you and acknowledge this presance in my life. I ask for your guidance at all times

I take hinduism and judaism pretty seriously, but I'm open to all teachings and think there is spiritual value in all places.

It's hard to explain with words. But it's an understanding you have, it comes to you. It's earned. Not, just read on a page. I don't think it would be possible for it to work that way even if I could put it into words. You understand it with your soul and your heart more than your mind I think.
I would love to explain it, but it's not something I've attempted yet. No one really asks about my spirituality so I've just kept it to myself for the most part. It's kind of individual thing you know?
And, to each their own like. I have an appreciation for everyone equally what they believe or don't believe. I accept people where they are, exactly as they are.
