Cawk is absurdly defensive. It is not about winning, it is a deep fear of losing, coming from someone who experienced it a lot in life.

No. There's a big difference of mentality between people driven by love of winning, and those driven by fear of losing. As a competitive guy dealing with competitive guys, I know what I'm talking about.
I always kinda figured that those who want to win don't want to lose, and that those who don't want to lose want to win. While there can be a fixation more on one word than the other they root from similar problems.
Would you say that him reaching a stalemate would be good enough for him? It's not losing, but it's not winning either.
