Does capitalisation matter to you?

When chatting or addressing someone's handle in a post, do you mind capitalising their name? It shows a tiny bit of outward consideration in that you put in that extra gesture of pressing shift for the capital first letter. This might apply more to chat than forum posts. And when someone does vs doesn't capitalise, do you notice a difference in disposition?

Obviously nobody is going to note any drastic changes, but for all the subtlety it's worth, what does capitalisation actually mean to you?

A capital topic, even if there's no capital to make from it.

i am either in proper grammar mode or i'm not. which probably reflects my disposition at the time. it would be weird to break that just for someone's name, i think. i don't mind when others do the same. them using my name reflects the thoughtfulness to me, it doesn't have to be capitalized

For me it helps for mental spacing of the words. Capital letters help for implied emphasis while punctuation grants both tone and a sense of where to take a beat (a breath). People who talk in all lower case and/or with little to no punctuation read like run on sentences, which for imagining it verbally reads like a mumbler.

I tend to use my commas grammatically incorrectly, but the pauses help for the imagined pacing of how it otherwise would have been said. Writing isn't just about doing it correctly, it set the tone, the impression. It's really about presentation, as even TYPING IN ALL CAPS GIVES YOU A VERY DIFFERENT IMPRESSION OF THE MESSAGE.

If You Capitalize Every Word In A Sentence, I get Instantly Suspicious And Or Think You're Some Sort -O- Liar

It really does depend. Do they generally tend to capitalise? Them simply mentioning you by name is generally more meaningful than if they capitalise it or not. I tend to capitalise the letters at the start of sentences, but never peoples' names for some reason. My username starts with an uncapitalised, so I find it strange if people capitalise it. I do notice it. Since I almost never capitalise, I wonder what that says about me capitalising someone's name.

A shadow not so dark.

Inconclusive, its a habit to capitalize in things like this. It's something I waive off

Capitalisation is more aesthetic overall and lends authority to the username, but there's something lovingly simple about an uncapitalised username. HOWEVER, the latter only applies in a contrast. When all usernames are capitalised, save for a few, those few have the potential to gain a uniquely aesthetic feel. When too many usernames are like that however, this goes away. That is unlike capitalised usernames, which have a much more stable impression about them and generally look more valid.

Reminds me of how wilful used to insist that people'd keep the W lower case.
