I was reflecting on a conversation I had with some random people 2 days ago, how this one person continually tried to dominate the conversation. He both tried to talk over others, as well as demonstrate his knowledge by going into over-elaborate detail about things (such as chemical names) that served no other purpose to the conversation other than to show that he knew them. At first I was cordial; some people get excited or drift a bit. Nothing wrong with that.

The further things went on, the more I realized how much this person was seeking attention from the others around him and not really interested in input as much as output, even as the topics changed. After a while I got bored of the dynamic and left. Then earlier, I wondered if I should have called him out for cutting others off continually to try to push his own narrative. Probably not, I'll never have anything to do with any of them again. But then maybe I would have learned something from it.
