Blizzard vs DDOS

UKDrillas has been keeping a multi-billion dollar company at it's knees while bragging and laughing at them quite a bit on their Twitter [archive].

While this does interrupt the game I was playing, I feel like I can't even really fault them for it. You'd think that they'd have better DDOS protection 15 years into the game's release, but instead now thousands of players are unable to get, quite literally, "their fix".

Naturally people are complaining.

When this happened a year ago, someone actually went to prison for it with a $30,000 fine.

It's weird how much of a counter-culture has surfaced for specifically the art of ruining a large group of people's fun. Even "Twitch Plays Pokemon" got hit with the same shit once it was apparently "newsworthy" enough to be in some newspapers.

Yeah it literally happened like less than five minutes ago.

Looking for an archived copy.

I would imagine it has more to do with finances, and in a sense, theft.

You run a business, people pay money, then a 3rd party disrupts it with malicious attacks. Put him away.

DDoS is illegal, regardless of money issues.

Cheery bye!

Found an archived version.

Their brags are pretty self-congratulatory, but I mean... they are winning right now.

It's been interesting to watch how people are responding to a user named Asmongold.

He's a Twitch streamer who was the world first to reach the maximum level for WoW's re-release, and as a result the people watching his streams were initially trying to sabotage servers that he was playing on.

Instead of blaming the people responsible for DDOSing Blizzard's servers, they began to blame the streamer. They figured "If you'd just stop playing, maybe they'll stop DDOSing", which is fucking insane and desperate. He's since been offline and the attacks continue, yet people still feel like he's responsible from being a more tangible figure than the ones actually doing it.

Crowd psychology over celebrity figures has odd room for blame.
