The most OVERUSED insult on SC

"You are projecting."

Now, I understand that some people here may or may not project, projection being the act of taking your own flaws and accusing others of having those same flaws. But if you followed everyone on here's ideas, then you'd come to believe that everyone here is doing it. It's the hottest new manipulation trend. It should be put in the latest edition of a sociopath magazine. That's if you listen to you all. I somehow doubt that everybody here is giving unjustified criticisms that are just self reflections, with as much flaws that are going around and as smart as everyone fancies themselves, I am pretty sure that SOME of these criticisms are just that- criticisms. But, all of you that dish it out just cannot take it and so you use this freudian term to discredit anybody who has anything to say about you. It's foolish and frankly, the overuse of this term is harming the quality of the discourse on this site.

People actually do tend to project a lot, but I agree it gets over used.

Then it needs to stop applying to people in ways that are relevant to the conversation. Like how are we supposed to take someone doing it excessively seriously?

Either that or we need more words for it.

It's probably better to describe the projection instead of just telling someone that they're projecting. Or do both idk

I think it is over used also. But I'm thinking it happens here. I'm going to go project on someone right now.
