As a former art student I disagree. Most of them are hyped up shit, using "Artist Statements" to make up for a lack of talent.
"Show Don't Tell" is dying with that lot from them having to little to show, and with how readily accessable computers are we have an oversaturation of artists.
Artists are dime a dozen now, just like critics.

I'd have gone on more about how people tend to overlook their inherent sapience and emotions.
