It seems more like an externally believed identity that he's stuck proving to other people so that he can further believe in it and justify it's existence towards himself. He's basically asking for people's help in having him "Live the Label", and when we won't do it he has to justify why his audience "can't see it" to sustain the behavior and stop it from becoming whatever this belief is supposedly protecting him from. He is not strong enough of character to maintain or even properly stress test his beliefs by himself, he needs others' help.
He even was cherry pickish enough to show us, complete strangers, the one person online to say he's potentially legit by showing us his emails.
