You don't understand, if he accepts their offer, he'd not only have to make it through the casting call, but if somehow he got it he'd then be showcased alongside, according to him, sixteen other psychopaths of similar merit to himself. 

It'd offer a comparison that'd serve to make him look relatively less legitimate, unless their other 16 are as poor a choice as he is.
