If you want it to sound schizo, you need to understand how Word Salad works.
It's not just random words, it's a struggle to find the right words as thoughts of what they could be race in and our of their heads. Otherwise I've seen a lot sound pretty synesthetic as they try to use words normally associated with one sense to describe another. In many ways they are orbiting the perfect sentence much like a painter is orbiting the perfect art piece in their minds... and it just won't come out as it looks inside.
Look up Ego-Alien Affect, Labile Affect, and Flat Affect to try to mimic their displays. This with persecution thoughts can lead to a sense of feeling trapped inside, which is usually followed by them externalizing it strangely onto the things around them within strange sensory experiences and the magical thoughts that tried to rationalize somethings other people tend to not report.
Also being long winded tends to sell "episodic" too, as it's basically like that uncomfortable time right before the first peak of LSD... except for a while, and not having "Oh well yeah I'm on drugs" as an excuse leads to some odd, odd rationale.

Right, forgot to mention the presence of Word Clang that tends to invade schizophrenic speech when they're less well.
How a word sounds can be how the mind jogs it's memory, whether it leads to someone babbling a bunch of words that rhyme or it instead has them try to use normal speech with oddly chosen rhymes for it.
How memories are jogged is a big part of seeing their thought disturbances, as how they call on thoughts shows highs in some areas and lows in others when trying to otherwise work like a normal brain, like some kid fucked up the sound board switches or something.
The thinking from being racing also tends to show scattered ideas and a proneness to many tangents.
I see. There's a theme of some unseen nefarious influence "they". Mine lacked that completely and was just random drivel. He's speaking to illustrate/warn others about "them". Makes sense, thanks!
A key element I see in nutjobs like The Open Scroll is that the "they" doesn't have to be fully defined to be treated as a threat.
Being told that their existence makes no sense or that the person ranting about them doesn't know all the details doesn't get rid of that feeling, so they tend to be more prone to narrating a tangent as to how "they" thought of that already, or for the ones without the know-it-all trait they can just sit there uncomfortably knowing "they" are planning "something", even if we don't know what it is "right now".
Some go a little crazy with numerology or symbols instead, and a major prevelant issue within this style of it is that the time spent on it is taken more into account than the accuracy, and their means of doubting themselves while the thoughts are racing can be next-to impossible from the sudden ego surge.
