Is the word you are looking for shortsighted
Definition: Showing a lack of judgment, planning, or care about future consequences.
Example: Making a quick choice to save money today that causes a bigger expensive problem tomorrow.
You ought to know best in that regard.
While shortsightedness is synonymous with what he's talking about, I'm pretty sure he means to use the words insanity and folly.

From what I've witnessed, insanity and folly spawns from choices, hence the cycle of pride folly and denial which causes the subject to gamble on hope above evidence, then comes the meltdown/insanity forcing the cycle to reset.
Pride is the glue that keeps the superego together keeping self transformation bound to a cage too painful for the subject to pass through, while beyond the cage is the solution to what's being labled as mental illness.
Some would argue there are no right or wrong choices, even though only some choices yield prosperous results. Not to argue but wisdom rules.

to the extent that my mother called the cops on me when I would not go out to college in a far-flung place after I promised to leave, (she reminded me, I had forgotten that, after I would not go to college!), I am just bearer of unfortunate circumstance of my youth. Most recently (which is a long time ago now) I would not get out of a cab when she held the door preventing the driver from going. I was told I should have talked my way out of it. You will be hosp for the simple reason that you have the previous record —-and your record erased if you’re not hosp for 8 years anyways.
I don’t know anything otherwise about this other goobledygook, sounds like “gilded cage” stuff to me
