Only if you plan on parsing through all the data on this site and recreating all the posts + their replies, and setting up accounts for everyone with the same username where they can contact you and set the password. Otherwise what's the point

yeah the forum took like no time. it still needs formatting and embedding tools, but that is not a lot

it is mostly just grind work...the server was spun up and only connectable through tailscale. and i was integrating the custom shader system i had for backgrounds from another project. the idea being that people could do their own shaders and backgrounds. the more ambitious idea was to give people a "handler" for threejs to make their own scenes. i am sure there are open-source scene tools which could be transplanted for this purpose

at any rate the idea didn't seem that warmly-received, so i deleted the cloned server, and merged the forum back into my original app. ofc it can always be split back off, but my poor tokens if i have to do it again 😭

can you even add direct IDs on discord? at least with the add friend function, it threw an error

perhaps it's easier if i explain the app i was already working on. it was really meant to just be something for my friends and i/material for a portfolio

the app itself has a chat room, an opentogethertube instance where people can synchronize video enjoyment, a webamp instance (think winamp) with over 50 radio stations (it can go to however many) + a visualizer, and the music works regardless of where you are on the site. and a system where people can add their own stations to their own lists

also out of interest there are a dozen different threejs background scenes, and a custom tool to develop your own backgrounds with shaders. and some light UI controls. here are some examples (these are all animated):

there is a bit of room to customize what you want. and with AI it is very simple to spin up new UI. though tokens don't grow on trees, and at this point the system is getting complex enough that i'm having to use advanced models for some of this work. users can also make their own shader backgrounds, but an image doesn't really do those justice. think PS2 menu background

aside from those things, the site has a news feed of the events of the last 24 hours in crypto/investing and ai (i built this for me). i have ai go read news feed, determine which stories are most pertinent, then give me a rundown of the day's events and what it could mean for future trends. so a summed portion about the news. followed by the relevant articles with their summaries too

there's also a functioning windows 98 with some games on it, and retroassembly instance with some ROMs on it. but i am absolutely not hosting a server for here with any of those things 😆

so earlier in the thread, i gave some pictures of a primitive mockup of the forum, where you can see some of the backgrounds used

really the main things that users of this forum would get out of it, would be:

• extensive customizability of their user interface
• a working search

if people were interested, these things can be easily integrated:

• a winamp-based radio station system
• a way for people to watch youtube in sync

the main thing is, if you have active developers, things can at least go a direction. let's say there was a button you could push on the site, and then an AI gave you a summarization of that person or that post. or let's say we put an AI onto the site as a regular member. or that there was a built-in gambling system (not with real money of course). there really are a lot of possibilities, agentic programming is bringing us out of the drudgery of writing functions by hand. these are also things which could revitalize a forum

and again, that is none of that is anything negative about Good (some people are seeming to take it that way?). he spun this site up and has been hosting for years. but in his own words he's surprised it still works and he's not interested in it

the actual mechanics of moving forward would probably involve us seeing if he will give us the database, and getting a community consensus. i'm averse to changing things from how they currently are, other than as far as the site is coded. i will get use out of this stuff whether we use it here or not, so i don't really care that much tbh

it's probably the primary source of slop on X with the automated scouring of trends. some are using kanban with it, to research, summarize, come up with a pithy post before asking if it should submit (if they have it ask). i haven't used kanban a lot, just mostly MCP + cron jobs. honestly, it is kind of a disgusting thing how attention has become commoditized and pipelined through these systems. you're better off making "real life chibi" videos that get 4m views on tiktok than being a productive member of society. it's all another swirl down the drain, but maybe we can all get our own nihilistic bag

but also this looks like it's going to take aeons to load, I am wary with all of the excessive on-screen elements after sleeping on it. I’d recommend streamlining it for readability and load speed. Though I think since at least 4 other people are trying to  replace the website so I'm just going to make a new forum too
