If it means ICE don't get paid, and therefore won't show up to beat the crap out of LEGAL elderly farm workers, there is a silver lining.

If it means the tariffs won't affect us because SCotUS(?) struck them down as illegal and Pumpkinhead was too distracted to fight about it, I'm also good with that.

Other than that, it sucks for you guys, and I'm very happy to be Canadian right now.

The effects will be diverse.  Probably the worst part of it is that essential government will continue to work without pay (paid back when funding resumes, presumably) or otherwise furloughed.  Pretty sure that will affect performance.  So I would stay away from traveling the airways.  Not sure what other trickle-down effects there will be, going from federal to state to more local levels.

E-Verify is down, which will affect hiring and certain other dependencies.

I just hope this won't affect getting road work done, which has been a pain in the ass for months.

This is because Congress couldn't come to an agreement on funding.  Guess who has constitutionally protected pay in this kind of situation?  Congress and the PUSA.

Dude, ICE isn't just going to continue uninterrupted, Trump's putting into law mandatory police aid via 'threats to the country' with an absurdly broad list. They also are using spyware to hack phones 'clicklessly'; receiving the text is enough to hack your phone. The goal is to handle 'threats before they happen', which is classic Patriot Act linguistics. 

They can basically pick up anybody for the moment, even political opponents. 

Good news for SSI at least (for people like myself): It's related to the government but separate enough to continue funding people. I feel bad for those this hits, but thankfully it's not hitting those on social security (yet). He's discussing cutting funding but moreso over trans rights (and Military I guess? Wtf?), which is super fucking shitty I hate it, he's glorifying less than 1% of people as if a threat philosophically as a scapegoat, but the general public, even members of the left, see it as easier to abandon their needs over those of race and health conditions not "self-inflicted". 

Basically, being trans is a "first world problem" if not "disorderly and costly", while matters of race and birth sex are not a choice. Discontinued health care over those already far enough into hormonal therapy treatments however are going to show problems, namely shit like Osteoporosis if they can't keep up their chems. Even further by focusing the focal point on the 'trans epidemic', they aim to distract women from their own rights violations by talking about people invading their shitters (bathrooms). The 'direct' threat has them ignore indirect ones.

The osteoporosis is a side effect of the hormones NOT of being deprived of them. On this issue Trump is right. Even a broken clock is correct twice a day. Those cross sex hormones cause frightful problems, especially in a still developing body. The hormone blockers cause such nasty problems they were deemed cruel & unusual punishment when they used to give the very same drugs to kiddy fiddlers as chemical castration. They were banned from that until big pharma discovered a new market for them. This is an issue clouded in dogma, bullshit and virtue signalling, unfortunately. It is women and kids that bear most of the brunt, but many going down that road of delusion are irrevocably harmed. If people do some basic fact checking the bullshit is very easily dismantled, but open discourse on the subject is too fraught with the threat of being cancelled.
