It's not about censoring what's said, it's about keeping the index that much cleaner. It's the compromise between function and non-censorship. A while back we had like half the people wanting shit deleted while the other didn't, and this allowed for both to find something in the conclusion.
The style of spam that's worth archiving is the sort where it's clear the one writing it actually put a piece of themselves into the work, compared to others who can't even do that much. It also serves as proof of record over the user's activity if it needs cross referencing.
