the feeling of "gut wrenching" and the rush of blood in-and out of my stomach happens whenever I experience a strong negative emotional reaction within the spectrum of anxiety and fear, or when I'm excited (butterflies when I crush on someone). The gut is a strong indicator of danger - It typically tells me if someone's to trust, or if something's "off" about someone. And I've learned to trust this instinct. The link between anxiety and excitement is quite strong - it's only a physical manifestation of an expectation/anticipation and in fact the judgment of this physical sensation happens in our mind. If I think about it, sometimes I'm anxious when I'm actually just excited.
The second brain makes most of our serotonin. This is why diet impacts your mental health so strongly. I used to tell people this and they would dismiss me, also on this website. But it's really true - stop eating sugar and see how it impacts your mood.
The gut is a powerful tool, and if you pay attention to it you also become closer to your body. Our evolutionary instincts tell us when there is danger, and our subconscious is faster than our conscious. all of our past experiences are expressed through those gut feelings.
