What advantages are we providing for humanity by increasing our population size? 

I really don't see said advantages, if anything it seems like it'd make existing conditions worse. Even when compared to other animals in nature it doesn't end well. 

Logically, a functional society would have an increase in birth rate. Only a dysfunctional society would see a drop in birth rate for reasons that are not infertility/natural calamity.

 You're delusional. Population change has nothing to do with capitalism or socialism. China had the one baby rule and women are choosing carriers instead of family.
