honestly I can’t find much info on convictions where there was no alleged trafficking or abuse. It gets more serious when those things are involved. I challenge you to find a case without trafficking, abuse, or release into public where a person in the United States is sentenced to any serious time for owning a coyote or something slightly comparable.
Ooooo Maybe try scholar.google.com and search “Case Law” — with my Boolean search as follows:
"exotic wildlife"-trafficking -conviction
I get a lot of hits …. 😉
You can make a Boolean search string at taylr.ai and then enter it in Google Scholar.
Chapo, I think the reason we cannot find that is this: see it in PICTURE form: 14 states STILL permit ownership of exotic animals according to this MAP under licensure or permit scheme.

PS I know you’re being cute with language there but what is “slightly” comparable to coyote 😉 ?
what is “slightly” comparable to coyote ?
was thinking basically anything dangerous but not endangered.
How did you come to be interested in this topic? Were you thinking about an exotic pet? :)
I brought someone’s two ferrets to my house to sit for them for one day once and they are mean!

this is the most serious thing I’ve found. 2 misdemeanors.
